Deceptive “Reviews” March 26, 2009

I read on line recently a “review” of best selling formula, Hgh Plus by www.modernaging.com. I have no idea who this company is and have never heard of them. I contacted a number of my colleagues and they never heard of them either. They have never contacted us, nor interviewed or researched to any degree whatsoever anything about me or my formula.
Despite this, they posted a “review” of the formula. It of course, was not favorable as all of their reviews are . . EXCEPT the formula that they are secretly selling. This dark, secretive method of selling is one of the most common, outdated forms of advertising.
And one of the most unethical.
Why unethical? Simple. It is not a “review” to any degree but rather a tearing down of other formulas. We do not do this to any degree with other formula, nor other companies. Our formula is exceptional, having been on the market now for 11+ years. It is one of the original and best selling. We do not have to tear others down to build ourselves up. Our formula has already built our reputation as a first class product and first class company.
It is unfortunate that some companies and formulas cannot stand on their own merit. Ann Landers said it best: “Class never tries to build itself up by tearing others down.”
Hamstring Treatment and Prevent March 23, 2009

Given my last adventure of a hamstring tear, this latest research caught my attention in a hurry.
According to Scandinavian researchers, the negative (eccentric) leg curl is the perfect solution to hamstring injuries. In 2003, a study from one of the leading institutes in Stockholm found that a 10 week preseason hamstring strength training program emphasizing eccentric leg curls SIGNIFICANTLY reduced injuries to this part of the leg.
And as an added benefit, the exercise increased the athletes’ maximal running speed, endurance and muscle strength.
The technique is simple: Overload the machine with enough weight to do 3/5 (remember this ratio? I have blogged about this on many occasions.) Do 3 to 5 sets of 3 to 5 reps with 3-5 minutes of rest in between. Do this 3 to 5 times per week and your hamstrings will love you for it.
Liver Era is Kicking in Gear March 20, 2009

As the scandals continue, the bailout details revealed, AIG bonuses exposed and the ever growing realization that “change” really meant “more of the same”. . . .the era of the liver is gearing up. As predicted a couple of months ago, I said that the next few years would be dominated by liver issues. We are starting to see this much sooner than expected.
Quick review. Liver is characterized by anger, vision/eyes and is responsible for spreading the energy throughout the body. Bring in the concept of macrocosm/microcosm and you can easily see why The Era of the Liver was an easy call.
Bailouts. Is there a more hated word in the American consciousness now? Instead of spreading opportunity, huge amounts of moneys are going toward failing companies. This would be the equivalent of the liver spreading energy only to the spleen and leaving the rest of the body alone. (Leaving the body alone would be a great idea!) Such an imbalance of energy is bound to impact the body. . .and the country. . . in a tremendously negative fashion.
Deep seeded anger. In my life time, I have never seen so much anger from so many people about so many things. From illegal immigration to excessive taxation to obscene spending and power grabs, even those who are “yin” by nature are speaking out. Loudly. This is the liver venting energy.
We have lost our perspective, our vision. Instead of growing and maturing, as a country we are regressing, being immature children who demand everything free. Now the bills are due and finger pointing is the favorite sport. Again, the vision — the liver — is distorted.
It is more than likely that this trend will continue. Even more than before, it is imperative that individuals take care of this valuable organ. How?
- Consuming dark, green leafy vegetables.
- Consumption of lemon
- Add dandelion root or bupleurum to your nutritional protocol
- Do castor oil packs on a regular basis.
As individuals, the only thing we can do is create our own version of our world and continue to progress. Are you a better version today than yesterday? Are you living your dreams? Did you practice your passion today? These are the questions that can make a difference. They create truthful change, change that makes a difference on the inside. When the inside is progressing, only then will the outside move in a direction characterized by health, abundance and opportunity for those who chose to take action.
That is the America and her people that I love!
Mercury/Fish Connection March 9, 2009

Sushi fan? Love fish in general. This article is for you.
Mercury is a very toxic substance that enters (primarily water ways) via electrical plants that use coal, waste from incinerators and by products of certain manufactured goods. Unfortunately, where it accumulates is often in large fish such as tuna, shark and swordfish (especially the latter).
In humans, mercury accumulates in the brain and central nervous system, liver and kidneys. It is particularly toxic to children and women who are pregnant. It has been correlated with neurological abnormalities, damage to the portion of the brain that controlls movement, seizures and developmental disabilities such as mental retartation. In addition, it is also a testicular toxicant and impairs the reproductive system in men by decreasing blood testosterone and sperm count.
In short, mercury toxicity is a major problem, particularly in those areas such as Northern Canada which consume high amounts of fish, according to the Food Chemical Toxicology Journal.
What can be done? Aside from identifying safe fish sources, the nutritional protocol that works best for most people is as follows:
- Selenium
- Zinc picolinate
- Methionine
If the toxicity is significant, add Sonne’s #7 to the mix. A Hair Analysis will identify or rule out any problems.

New Help for Seniors March 3, 2009

A report published in the March, 2009 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition described a study conducted by researchers at the University of Adelaide in Australia which found that a combination of testosterone and an oral nutritional supplement may have kept previously undernourished older individuals out of the hospital.
Forty-nine men and women aged sixty-five and older whose nutritional assessment scores categorized them as undernourished were provided with advice on improved dietary intake and were assigned one of the following regimens: oral testosterone undecanoate (80 milligrams twice per day for men and 40 milligrams per day for women), an oral nutritional supplement consisting of 18 percent protein, both testosterone and the nutritional supplement, or no treatment for one year. Participants received regular home visits during which weight, dietary and medication compliance and other factors were assessed.
All participants gained weight by the end of the study. Among those that received the nutritional supplement, grip strength improved. Over the course of the year, 7 men and 6 women had a total of 18 hospital admissions. Four of the admissions occurred among the 12 subjects who received testosterone, 5 occurred in the 13 who received the nutritional supplement, and 9 occurred in the 13 that received no treatment. Among the 11 who received both testosterone and supplemental nutritional therapy, no hospital admissions occurred. Additionally, neither of the two deaths that occurred over the course of the study was among participants who received both treatments.
In their discussion, the authors suggest that testosterone treatment could lower inflammation and stimulate appetite. Proinflammatory cytokines which increase with aging have been shown to inhibit food intake.
“Because hospitalizations are a common and serious event in undernourished older people, this is an exciting finding of considerable potential benefit to many people,” the authors conclude. “Larger, confirmatory studies are now needed.”
Eating Before & After Improves Muscles March 2, 2009

One of the most important results from studies done in all of sports nutrition is that eating before and after training promotes recovery, increases muscle size and strength and prevents injury. Intense training, be it weights, cardio, interval etc., “jolts” the metabolism. High levels of tension developed during such training damages tissues that must be repaired during recovery.
Training also stimulates tension receptors within the cells themselves and muscle the size of the muscle improve over time. It is not only the “TUT’ or time under tension that matters, it is also the anabolic hormones, energy, amino acids and overall energy.
International Society of Sports Nutrition member Dr. Jose Antonia revealed tha consuming 25g of protein before and also after exercise was superior to feeding carbs for improved muscle/sports performance. He concluded that consuming protein or a combination of protein and carbs is important for enhancing the adaptive response to all forms of exercise.
